Markoe lets motherhood speak in full honesty in “Everyday”

Markoe presents “Everyday” as a deeply personal project about motherhood, the love for one’s children, and the desire to be present in every stage of that bond. The song comes from an intimate experience, but it is meant to connect with many mothers who recognize in parenting a mix of devotion, exhaustion, tenderness, pressure, and gratitude.

The origin of “Everyday” was not immediate. The first musical idea appeared in January 2025 through a ukulele sample, an instrument Markoe had been exploring for its warm and brighter sound. The production was completed around March of that same year, but the writing process was much harder. The artist tried several times to find a story that fit the instrumental, partly inspired by Billie Eilish’s “Party Favour,” but soon realized that writing about an ex-partner was not the right direction for this project.

Before becoming “Everyday,” the song had another version called “Tiny Toes.” Markoe worked on melodies and ideas with her producer, her vocal coach, and a friend who is also an artist, and for a moment, she felt she had found the right direction. However, after performing it at an open mic and not receiving the reaction she had hoped for, she decided to stop the release. That moment was important because it forced her to look at the song with more honesty. The lyrics did not flow the way they needed to, the message did not fully support the music, and the song still was not saying what she needed to say.

The turning point came months later, when Markoe felt overwhelmed by the love she felt for her sons and decided to write it down as if it were a journal entry. From that place, “Everyday” appeared. This time, the melodies came more naturally, and the song found its emotional center in motherhood seen through the eyes of a mother who loves deeply but who also recognizes the weight, responsibility, and intensity of raising children.

Lyrically, “Everyday” speaks about the promises a mother makes to herself and to her children. Markoe starts from the clear idea that being a mother can feel overwhelming when everything is new, but it can also be one of the most beautiful and transformative experiences. The song moves through that contradiction without exaggerating it. It speaks about admiring one’s children, protecting small moments, and understanding that every shared second has a unique value from a mother’s perspective. That perspective matters because the song does not try to speak about family in general terms but from the place of someone who experiences motherhood through body, time, and daily devotion.

The music video plays a central role in this release as Markoe does not want “Everyday” to be promoted only as a song but as a complete project. That intention is clear in the way she thought through every element, from the visual concept and cover art to the release date and the involvement of other people in the process. Her goal is for the audience not only to hear the song but also to see it, feel it, and recognize something of their own in it. That is why choosing Mother’s Day as the release date makes sense; it reinforces the message and places the project within a broader emotional conversation.
