When love is not enough: ROREY unpacks heartbreak on “I Get It Now”

Loving someone is not enough when that person does not choose to stay. That is the conclusion ROREY reached, and it runs throughout her new album, I Get It Now.

Across 11 songs, the artist addresses the end of a relationship marked by miscommunication and the effort to sustain a bond without putting herself second.

ROREY, a New York–based singer, songwriter, and musician, moves through the different stages of heartbreak without limiting herself to missing someone or accepting a breakup. She goes further, trying to understand what happens when two people can love each other yet remain unable to communicate, make the same decisions, or build a relationship that can last.

“Some things are only meant to be experienced once, once in a lifetime. And love without choice is empty,” the artist explains. Her reflection captures one of the album’s central ideas, recognizing that a relationship can be deeply important and even unrepeatable without necessarily being worth preserving at any cost.

The title, I Get It Now, points to the moment when an answer finally emerges, and the relationship can be viewed with greater clarity.

Born in Manhattan and split between New York and Los Angeles while growing up, ROREY developed her musical instincts early, picking up the guitar at six and writing her first song four years later before teaching herself piano. Today, she remains closely involved in every release, writing and co-producing her music and shaping both its emotional narratives and sonic direction.

ROREY first introduced her music with Predictable in 2021, marking the beginning of a body of work shaped by candid songwriting, memorable melodies, and a fluid approach to genre. Her songs explore the thoughts and emotions that are often left unspoken, confronting the difficult realities of relationships while also examining the parts of ourselves that can be hardest to face.

On this album, ROREY recognizes that a relationship can have been real while still lacking what it needed to continue. I Get It Now speaks about the pain of accepting that contradiction, but also the clarity that comes when someone understands that holding on to another person’s love should never require abandoning herself.

The album’s title track presents this conflict in an especially direct way. I Get It Now begins with overlapping audio recordings of conversations between the couple, phone calls, crying, and reflections on the relationship, all accompanied by background music. The track reconstructs the highs, lows, and tense moments of a bond marked by confusion and failed attempts to understand one another.
