Holly Hollows and DNNNY Blend Indie Pop, Alternative, and Country in “Meteorite”

“Meteorite” is the new single from Holly Hollows, featuring DNNNY and co-written with Casual Drifter. The track that blends alternative, indie pop, and country into an evocative soundscape was produced by Kyle McCammon at the legendary The Ship studio in Los Angeles.

The song begins with a classic country melody, then Holly and DNNNY trade verses, each pushing the story forward until their voices meet in the chorus. Supported by Eric Singer on drums, Aaron Bakker on guitar, and Will Hensley on pedal steel, the single builds steadily, with indie pop and alternative textures layered over its country roots.

The result is both playful and powerful, bringing together Holly's poetic touch and DNNNY's creativity while also carrying the spark of her first collaboration with Casual Drifter.

For Holly, known for her ethereal and shadowy songwriting, “Meteorite” marks a bold departure from her usual style. DNNNY, typically rooted in R&B and soul, also embraces new ground with ease. Their willingness to venture beyond their comfort zones ties directly to Holly’s upcoming psychedelic country musical OUTRO, where the song plays a central role.

At the heart of the song lies a poem by Holly herself, which became the foundation for the single:

You never knew the pain till someone touched the wound
And truth came spilling from your eyelids
Washing away the one you wished you were
The wishes you had practiced wishing on pennies
On stars and birthday cake candles
But those are their shooting stars
And you are the meteorite, hurtling back to an earth that calls you home.

Holly explained that the song began with a poem and a melody that lingered in her mind until she couldn’t ignore them. She and Casual Drifter drove off together and recorded the first demo of “Meteorite” that same day. Although their relationship had ended, their creative bond remained strong; art always came first for them. For Holly, that experience mirrors how relationships can feel like bursts of blazing energy, brilliant whether they last a moment or a lifetime, each carrying its own meaning.

“Meteorite” showcases both artists’ strengths while allowing them to venture into new territory. Holly’s storytelling and DNNNY’s smooth delivery intertwine seamlessly, making the song less about genre and more about connection.
