Maximalist, extravagant in its purest form, defiant, sensual, irreverent, and charged with an intense social message, this is “Ice Always Melts,” the new single from singer-songwriter Genesys, who returns to digital platforms to rip the mask off a system built on stolen ground.
The track plays on the name of the United States immigration enforcement agency, using it as a vehicle to speak out against a deportation system that seems to overlook the human side of the country’s ongoing crisis, one that has sparked widespread outrage across much of the population.
“‘Ice Always Melts’ raises awareness of the families impacted by recent raids and honors those we’ve lost, including Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good. These high-profile shootings were followed by over 32 deaths in ICE custody in 2025 alone, surpassing numbers since 2004,” they said.
The accompanying music video takes the message into the streets, filming across some of Los Angeles' most historically immigrant neighborhoods, including Chinatown, Little Tokyo, and Olvera Street, before planting itself directly across from a migrant detention center. The performance is theatrical and intentional, using ice as a physical stand-in for what the song refuses to let stand, rooting the message in the geography of a city shaped by the very people the system continues to target. A reminder that this land was never empty, and the country built on top of it was shaped by the very communities now living under threat, one that hits close to home, whether you are watching from LA or from Miami.
The song stands on an increasingly defined artistic identity. Genesys has positioned themself as a figure who blurs the lines between electronic music and hyperpop, drawing clear inspiration from artists like Ashnikko and Slayyyter while pushing those influences into their own territory, one where the theatrical, the political, and the visceral coexist unapologetically. Their lyrics, raw and unfiltered, aim to unsettle, provoke, and, above all, awaken.
