Yet that distinctive blend, capable of drawing listeners into a reflective, almost hypnotic state, is one of the defining qualities of Everything’s Coming Up Roses, the new single from Violet Days.
Everything’s Coming Up Roses finds Lina Hansson putting words to a kind of hope that once felt difficult to believe. Written during a period of grief, the latest Violet Days single began as a personal mantra, with Hansson using songwriting to articulate the reassurance she wanted to hold onto herself.
The song arrives as the third single from the forthcoming Everything’s Coming Up Roses EP, following The Urge To Disappear and Don’t Ruin Love. The EP follows nearly two years away from releasing new music for Violet Days and explores themes of escape, hope, and finding your way back to yourself.
“I wrote Everything’s Coming Up Roses as a mantra during a time when I felt completely surrounded by grief and had almost lost hope. I wanted to write the words I wished I could believe, hoping that one day they would become true. Looking back now, I realize how far I've come, and I feel closer to those words than ever before. I hope this song can be a reminder that even when life feels impossibly heavy, things can change, and that everything will eventually be okay again,” Hansson says.
The meaning of the song has shifted with the passage of time. What began as an attempt to imagine better circumstances now comes from a place in which Hansson feels closer to the words she originally hoped to believe. That perspective gives the single its particular emotional weight, keeping its message of optimism connected to the experience that prompted it.
Everything’s Coming Up Roses also reflects the songwriting perspective Hansson has developed beyond Violet Days. Her credits include work with The Chainsmokers, FIFTY FIFTY, Jonas Blue, Sam Feldt, Winona Oak, and Monsta X. She was named Songwriter of the Year at the Dalecarlia Music Awards and has also been nominated for the Denniz Pop Awards.
Her releases and songwriting credits have accumulated more than 200 million combined streams, adding considerable history to a project now entering its next phase.
That idea gives the single a natural place within the forthcoming EP. After writing the song as words she needed to hear herself, Lina Hansson now approaches those words from a different point in her life. “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” captures that change without losing sight of the uncertainty from which it began.
