The Hypnotic Global Melodies of Lealiza’s New Single “Tamid”

‍Lealiza’s fascination with music extends directly into the mechanics of recording. When her father’s fragile reel-to-reel tapes broke, she taught herself to splice them back together, trying to make the repairs imperceptible. Those recordings of vintage world music, alongside her mother’s theater albums, offered an early invitation to explore contrasting soundscapes. Broadway scores, belly dance music, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” filled her childhood, shaping the technical curiosity and cross-genre instincts that define her work as a writer and producer.

Since recording her debut album, “Thorns and Petals,” at Abbey Road Studios in 2022, Lealiza has continuously expanded her cross-cultural aesthetic through international collaborations. Singing across multiple languages, she transcends conventional borders and eras, creating self-contained universes where historical traditions and modern arrangements meet naturally.

Her latest single, “Tamid,” serves as an embodiment of this global perspective. Born from a trip to Morocco in early 2025, the track brings North African influences into conversation with Andalusian melodic and harmonic colors. Moroccan desert-blues guitarist Hamid Al Ait, who collaborated on the recording through Sahara Records, adds a direct connection to the musical landscape that inspired it. At the core, Lealiza’s vocal delivery remains intimate and commanding, establishing an atmospheric spell from the opening measure.

Lyrically, “Tamid” balances vulnerability and confidence through vivid couplets like “Between my feet and spreading wings / From tiny steps to fearless flight.” The central phrase “Tamid-amidinine” acts as a hypnotic mantra, driving the arrangement with the cadence of a ceremonial chant. The composition retains a clear rhythmic purpose, keeping the piece engagingly danceable while avoiding rigid genre boundaries.

Audiences drawn to the artistic depth of Kate Bush, Loreena McKennitt, or Lhasa de Sela will find a familiar resonance in Lealiza’s work. “Tamid” offers a complete immersion into a distinct, cross-cultural vision.
