“Fragile,” the new single by singer-songwriter Camille Granbert, captures a mixture of hope and anxiety that is difficult to put into words, much like the feeling of emerging from a complicated emotional situation while darkness still lurks nearby, breathing down your neck and keeping you from fully enjoying the peace you have just found.
Camille bares her soul in this track, speaking openly about the mental health struggles that brought her to a breaking point in 2023. Back at her parents’ home in the Bay Area, she received intensive treatment and began reclaiming parts of her everyday life. These small steps forward required tremendous effort and were always accompanied by the fear of losing her balance.
“We’re never really ‘done healing’; we just learn to live the best we can with the cards we’re dealt.” This idea sits at the heart of “Fragile,” which Camille wrote on guitar during that period of recovery. The song captures the frustration of realizing that healing doesn’t mean leaving every struggle behind, even when progress is being made.
Her musical journey began in childhood at the piano and continued through ensembles such as Peninsula Women's Chorus and USC’s collegiate a cappella group UnderSCore. Based in Los Angeles, she has brought her music to The Hotel Café, Writers Round LA, and We Found New Music at Hotel Ziggy. The harmonies and intimate storytelling that define her sound are also present in “Bad at Being Human” and “I Know How I Get.”
For Camille, sharing her songs is a form of catharsis, an opening into her inner world that brings her relief as she builds a safe space for herself and her community, connecting with others through the complexities she explores in her music.
“Fragile” tells a deeply personal part of her story, but it can also resonate with people facing mental health struggles who know what it feels like to go through something others do not always understand. With a mature voice and a talent that shines through her guitar playing, Camille Granbert crafts a beautiful song that can make someone feel less alone in the midst of despair. That is reason enough to make a cup of tea, press play, and find a moment to listen to yourself for at least 3:24 minutes.
