Nestled deep in the heart of the Californian forest during winter, with minimal internet access and few luxuries, Junaco crafted what is, to date, their most mature and profound album. Titled “In Motion,” the project is filled with transcendent reflections and the relaxed yet intricate sound that has become the band’s signature.
From this album comes its third single, “Boston,” a song about putting on a facade, living up to others’ expectations, and gradually blurring your true self until you lose sight of who you are.
“It’s a story of identity and growth, accepting yourself, recognizing that feeling other—whether it’s because of your hair, your race, your aspirations—is what makes you you,” the band says.
With a more pronounced percussion and Shahana’s steady, laid-back vocals, the track maintains the melancholic essence that defines Junaco, a band unafraid to weave in eclectic rhythms to enrich their signature blend of acoustic folk, dream pop, and indie rock.
“Boston” follows “Find The Melody,” a hypnotic track with Brazilian influences, and “Escape,” a contemplative song that explores the passing of time and the never-ending pursuit of inner peace.
The song features string arrangements by Oliver Hill (Coco), and the album was recorded at Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas. It was produced by the band and engineered by Mario Ramírez, a close collaborator who has helped bring their most intimate work to life. Mixing was handled by Jake Aron, with mastering by Heba Kadry; both longtime collaborators and familiar names in Junaco’s creative journey.
“Boston” confirms Junaco’s evolving sound and their commitment to an honest narrative, one that embraces vulnerability and the journey of self-discovery. In times when it’s easy to get lost in external noise, the band offers a pause, an alternate route that invites introspection.
Set for release in September, “In Motion” is expected to deliver more songs that invite contemplation, reflection, and stillness; compositions that offer a sense of refuge, a deep breath, and a gentle reminder to be present.
