An intense yet embracing guitar is suddenly interrupted by a chorus with all the hallmarks of inspirational music, the kind capable, with just a few notes, of making the heart beat again and restoring meaning to life. That’s the power of “Turn Off the Tears,” the new single by singer, songwriter, and artist Scott Oatley, known as Vân Scott.
“Turn Off the Tears” centers on the pain and recurring struggles of his sister Kayt, who endured serious health issues for years following a traumatic brain injury that left her with more than a dozen concussions, among other complications.
The song, built on a simple yet powerful chorus, was made in collaboration with producer Bede Benjamin-Korporaal (Capitol CMG). It perfectly showcases the singer’s commanding voice, strong, steady, and warm, turning the track into a heartfelt tribute to family, sibling love, and rebirth.
Scott’s journey has been anything but linear, aware that art can only be lived in zigzags. His voice has been featured in more than 50 films and television projects, including iconic soundtracks like La La Land, High School Musical 3, and SING, as well as hit series such as Black-ish, The Simpsons, and The Voice. His talent has also reached global audiences, such as NBC’s coverage of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Mentored by industry heavyweights Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins and Mike Elizondo, Scott has cultivated a distinctive artistic identity, marked by heightened sensitivity and a natural vocal power reminiscent of the great male performers of rock and roll’s golden era.
Despite his long entertainment career, his defining step as a singer and songwriter came in 2021 with the release of his debut album, “Almost Gone,” which earned him the Grand Prize in the USA Songwriting Competition for the single “What’s Coming Next?”
Three years later, in 2024, he unveiled his second project, “Songs I Never Wrote (because they would've been about you),” a melancholy and honest portrait of lost love. Now, he is preparing his third album, set to be released in 2026. The record promises to be his most intimate yet, exploring family ties and paying tribute to the people who matter most in his life.
“Turn Off the Tears” emerges as a preview of what could become his most definitive work, a deeply personal project designed to cement his place under the spotlight as a leading voice.
