With a softness that feels like a calm river quietly flowing through a still landscape, singer-songwriter Elena returns to music after years away with her new single, “Love,” an ode to self-love and transformation.
The song, infused with sensuality, feels ideal for setting the mood for moments of deep intimacy. Yet beyond being shared with someone else, it seems designed to be dedicated to oneself with a glass of wine, immersed in a foam-filled bathtub, and wrapped in a chosen solitude that is embraced and fully enjoyed.
The track was born after a long pause in musical creation, a period that became a space for deep and necessary introspection, during which the singer found answers and came to understand the true meaning of love. “Once I actualized self-love, I realized that love is a state that anyone can create. We are all creative beings, co-creators of this grand and mystical existence. Now I have no interest in falling in love. I want to align in love,” she said.
Despite an evolution reflected in her renewed outlook on life, the song preserves the artist’s signature style, as she moves naturally and effortlessly through genres such as R&B, soul, and pop. It also stands out as the first track entirely self-produced by her, a gesture that reinforces her creative autonomy and her pursuit of coherence between message and sound.
Elena's artistic journey started early in South Minneapolis, where she grew up. At four years old, Dr. Seuss' The Foot Book sparked something in her, and she began creating her own poetry and stories. As she got older, she taught herself to sing and discovered aerial arts through Circus Juventas in Saint Paul.
Hawaii entered her life when she left Minnesota for college at 18, settling in Oahu. The island transformed her as it deepened her spiritual awareness and influenced the textures of her sound. By her early twenties, Elena had returned to Minneapolis with enough original material to form a band. She became a fixture in the Twin Cities scene, playing rooms like the Dakota Jazz Club, First Avenue, and The Fine Line Music Cafe.
In 2015, she released her debut EP, “The Girl I Know,” an honest and emotional introduction that positioned her as a promising voice within the independent circuit and marked the end of an era in her music.
“Love” is a powerful return, a song that breaks the silence with such delicate softness it is barely felt, like someone who has matured her ideas while keeping her laid-back essence intact, unhurried, moving to the rhythm of the gentle waves that wash the beaches of southern Hawaii, her home.
In times when external validation often imposes itself as the measure of affection, Elena proposes aligning in love, the kind that vibrates, transcends, and connects, and within which lies the only force capable of changing the world we live in.
