Jaymin’s “Rollin” Lives in the Space Between Wanting and Knowing

R&B can be romantic, intense, and dramatic. When those qualities meet 80s and 90s flourishes and rap-influenced vocal cadences, the result preserves the genre’s emotional depth while bringing its sound into the present.

This is the space Jaymin, a South Seattle-born singer and songwriter, has been building. He developed his love for music at an early age, growing up with a mother in the ministry and several uncles who were pastors, surrounded by the rich, emotive sounds of gospel and secular soul.

As he continued learning new instruments and developing his songwriting, Jaymin eventually released his debut EP, Sweet Nothings. The project featured the breakout track Something Real, which has surpassed 14 million streams. Since then, he has expanded his catalog through collaborations with Sango, Girlfriend, and rjtheweirdo.

On his new single Rollin, Jaymin introduces a subtle shift in his sound. Co-produced by Seattle’s own Sango and longtime collaborator Chase N. Cashe, the track captures the complicated feelings that emerge when the future of a relationship becomes uncertain. Entrancing organ tones, hypnotic bass, heartbeat-like drums, and a distant sonar ping create a hazy, meditative backdrop.

Drawing inspiration from the chorus of Gucci Mane’s Pillz, Jaymin approaches the same central question from a more vulnerable perspective, wondering whether his partner is truly committed for the long run. He also turns that question toward the listener, asking whether they are willing to follow him into this next phase of his musical journey.

The song offers a preview of Jaymin’s upcoming EP, STATIC, out in September. Across the project, he examines the tension between love and uncertainty, desire and distance, and confidence and vulnerability.

Doubt, accountability, and the contradictions of sustaining a real connection shape the project’s narrative. Rollin opens this new chapter by expanding Jaymin’s sound while preserving the romantic and emotionally direct qualities that have defined his music.
