Miami Artist Aims for the Stars with First-Ever Performance in Space Environment

In an innovative cross between art and aerospace, Miami’s own Natasha Tsakos is taking multimedia performance where it’s never gone before, into microgravity. This fall, Tsakos and a multidisciplinary team of artists, scientists, and cinematographers will launch PARABOLES, the first fully human-performed multimedia work designed specifically for a zero-gravity environment.

The project will unfold aboard a parabolic flight leaving from Miami, an aircraft capable of simulating weightlessness for 22-second bursts over a series of 25 arcs. The production will feature three performers and two cinematographers navigating a gravity-free space to explore motion, storytelling, and the limits of human expression.

“This is not a stunt. It’s a profound reimagining of form, for a new frontier,” says Tsakos, a pioneer in multimedia performance. “PARABOLES is the next step for art-kind.”

More than an experimental showcase, the project will yield a cinematic art film, a documentary, and an immersive installation, slated for release in 2026. It also includes biometric research and a training curriculum designed to help prepare future artists for work in space. The production is backed by collaborators from MIT’s Space Exploration Initiative, Zero-G, and Miami’s own Live Arts Miami and O Cinema.

The PARABOLES team features an impressive roster of talent: Natasha Tsakos (creator, director, and performance researcher), Octavio Campos (human readiness training director), Luis Alberto Cuevas (lead solo and choreographer), Gabija Birina (lead opposing solo), Enrique Villacreses (in-flight videographer), Dezi Marino (lead capture officer), Yvette Gonzalez (bioastronautics officer), Pascal Jacquelin (production partner), and Rodrigo Arcaya (technical officer).

With creative input from professionals affiliated with Cirque du Soleil, National Geographic, and NASA, the team hopes to shape not just the aesthetic, but the ethical and philosophical tone of a rapidly expanding space industry.

“The space sector is growing fast, with tech, with funding, but what stories are we sending up there?” Tsakos asks. “Artists must be part of this evolution.”

To help fund final preparations and flights, PARABOLES has launched a Kickstarter campaign today, May 20. Supporters will help cover astronautical training, production, and research costs.
